3.8 What are my visitors searching for?

Introduction

You can learn what your customers are looking for by examining the search terms they use to find products in your store. If enough people are looking for a product that you don’t have, perhaps it’s time to add it to your catalog. Meanwhile, rather than have them leave them empty handed, why not redirect them to another product in your catalog? We will go through some ways that will help your customers find what they are searching for.

To see what your customers are searching for in your store:

From your admin’s dashboard go to Reports > Search Terms

To add a new search term:

  • From your admin’s dashboard go to Reports > Search Terms
  • Click Add New Search Term then do the following:
    • Search Query: enter the word or phrase that you want to add as a new search term
    • Store: Select the store where the search term will be used. If your store is available in multiple languages, select the applicable store view
    • Synonym For: If this term is a synonym for another search term, enter the other term. Any search for the synonym will be automatically redirected to the page for the other term
    • Redirect URL: To redirect the search results to another page in your store, or to another website, type the full URL of the target page
    • Display in Suggested Terms: If you want this term to be available for use as a suggestion whenever a search returns no results, set to “Yes”
  • Click the Save Search

To edit a search term:

  • From your admin’s dashboard go to Reports > Search Terms
  • Click the row of any record to open the search term
  • Make the necessary changes
  • Click Save Search

 

To delete a search term:

  • From your admin’s dashboard go to Reports > Search Terms
  • In the list, select the checkbox of the term to be deleted
  • In the upper-right corner of the list, set the Actions control to “Delete
  • Click Submit button
