5.3.1 x% discount on catalog, category or specific product

You can always offer your customers specific promotions during the year to get their attention and also increase the store traffic and revenue.

A survey found that up to 50% of consumers make a purchase only with a promotion. Shoppers desire a good deal before they invest in your products. Moreover, your business may want the additional revenue.


In this article, we will guide you through the steps of applying the promotion on your store.


To apply a discount on the whole store please follow the below steps:


- Applying specific discount on the whole store 

Step #1 Set the Rule Information

  • From the admin panel go to Promotions > CatalogPrice Rules and select Add New Rule
  • Enter RuleName and Description for this catalog price rule.
  • Set Status field to Active to activate this rule.
  • Click on Main Website from Websites field.
  • Choose the customer groups that you want this rule to apply to from Customer Groups field.
  • Set a Date Range for this rule by setting the From Date and To Date fields. If you leave these two fields empty, the rule will be enabled instantly.
  • Set Priority for the rule, that in some case, products might subject to different Catalog Price Rules. Setting Priority to “1” will referee that this rule has the highest priority in the Catalog Price Rules.
  • Click on Save and continue edit.

Step #2 Set the action of this rule which specifies the discount amount you want to apply:

  • Go to Actions from the left side menu and set the below fields.
  • The Apply dropdown list, Allows you to choose whether to set the discount as Percentage or as a Fixed Amount.
  • Discount Amount: is the fixed or percentage value that will be subtracted from the original price
  • Enable Discount to Subproducts Allows you to choose whether to apply this to subproducts (associated simple product). This Action is mainly useful for Configurable products.
  • Set Stop Further Rules Processing to Yes if you want to stop other promotion rules you’ve set.
  • Click on Save and Apply button

- Applying specific discount on a specific category 

Step #1 Set the Rule Information

  • From the admin panel go to Promotions > CatalogPrice Rules and select Add New Rule
  • Enter RuleName and Description for this catalog price rule.

Step #2 Set the category that you want to apply this promotion to:

  • From the Catalog Price Rule left side menu click on Conditions
  • Click on the plus icon to display the selection field,

  • Select Category option from the drop-down menu.

  • To choose which category you would like to apply the discount to, click on the Dots, then click on the small square next to the text field.
  •  Choose which category by clicking on the category’s check-box. Then click on the green circle as shown below:

Step #3  Set the action of this rule which specifies the discount amount you want

  • To choose which Products you would like to apply the discount to, click on the Dots, then click on the small square next to the text field.
  •  Choose which products by clicking on the check-box next to the product in the products table. Then click on the green circle as shown below:
