How to add Sub-Category & Main Category?

Introduction

The Categories are the Tree that holds your products in your store, and this tree sure has sections (ex: Men main category can have multiple subcategory like Jackets, Accessories ..etc). In this article, we will help you know how to create and add Main categories to the menu and also how to create and add Subcategory to the menu.


Steps

To create Main Category:

- Go to Catalog > Categories > Manage Categories
- Click on Default Category 
- Click on Add Subcategory
- Enter the Category info (Name, Is Active: Yes ...etc)
- Click Save Category

To add a new Main Category to the menu: 

- Go to Catalog > Categories > Categories Layout > Category Items Management
- Click on Add Menu Item
- Enter the Menu info (Name, Store View, Link, Sort Order ...etc)
- Now you can have Main Category with subcategories (ex: MEN) and another without any subcategories (ex: SUMMER COLLECTION), In Content section:

1: for the menu with subcategories (ex: SWEETS):
- Set Menu Type to Category Listing
- Set Template to Category Listing 02
- Set Number of Columns to number of subcategories that this category have
- Set Size of Column to 230
- Scroll down to Main Content tab
- Uncheck all the categories and only check the subcategories that this category have
2: for the menu without subcategories (ex: MOTHER'S DAY):
- Set Menu Type to Product Listing
- Set Template to Product Listing 02
- Set Number of Columns to 1
- Set Size of Column to 1
- Click Save Menu

Now regarding the subcategory, you can follow the steps below:

To create Subcategory:

- Go to Catalog > Categories > Manage Categories
- Click on the main category you would like to add a subcategory to (ex: Sweets)
- Click on Add Subcategory
- Enter the Category info (Name, Is Active: Yes ...etc)
- Click Save Category

To add a new Subcategory for an exciting menu: 

- Go to Catalog > Categories > Categories Layout > Category Items Management
- Click on the menu (ex: Sweets)
- Go to Content section
- Scroll down to Main Content tab
- Check the subcategories you would like to add
- Click Save Menu
